A TASTE OF THE CHINESE NEW YEAR...
We as American's celebrate our new year over night, leading into the first of January. Many know little to none of the Chinese New Year, including myself before this past weekend. February 7th, 2008 marked day one of the new year for China. It's the year of the rat, one of the twelve Chinese astrology animals. Those born within the category like to be first, pioneers, at the forefront of all action. They tend to see themselves as a cut above the others, both physically and mentally. Many tend to lead busy lives. I made a small trip down to Chinatown in Los Angeles, CA in thoughts of learning more about the vast growing Asian community, the Chinese New Year, and come out with a great documentary soon to be edited together. Over the weekend of February 9-10, Chinatown held they're celebration the way the Chinese do it. There were no booze throughout the weekend. The Chinese believe that the new year is strictly a way to start over, first by celebrating with family in a family environment. The celebration included acrobats, Chinese musicians, a Chinese traditional parade, Asian food, games, magicians, and much more Chinese fun. I learned over the past few days how much I really enjoy the Chinese community. You will meet the most kind, loving people in Chinatown. Their love for each other, and those outside Chinatown makes me jealous. Wouldn't you want to live in a world of peace. It was a small taste of the Chinese culture, and a feeling that I will never forget. I will update this blog on how the documentary is turning out, and will post it as soon as possible. Until then here are a few of the images I took during the Chines New Year. Enjoy and Critique!
